Who is this silly person who will be my new global teacher?
The Teacher: My name is Nichole Willden. I have been teaching for 20 years. I started teaching Pre-Kindergarten in 2003. They taught me to love children, to enjoy teaching, and to realize I had a lot to learn. After some schooling at Ozark Technical Community College and some Love & Logic training, I moved to Utah and started teaching the Second Grade. Their enthusiasm for learning was infectious, and it drove me back to school to become a better teacher. After more schooling, at Utah Valley University, and more teaching experience, I decided I was ready to teach in Granite School District. I taught with Granite for ten years, and it was awesome. I am now ready to teach in a global classroom, to children of all ages.
The Family-Girl: I am married to an awesome teacher who also teaches in a global classroom! We have no children of our own yet, but we both love children a lot. That is why we became teachers!
The Writer: I am a writer. I started writing seriously when I was in 4th Grade. My beloved 4th Grade teacher, Mrs. Erickson encouraged me to express myself through the written word. It was the first time I found I had a unique voice. I wrote for her, but over time I realized I could write for myself. I started with stories, and then began writing poetry. Now, some years later, I am still writing. I published my debut novel in 2021. Then, for some fun and magic, I started writing books for children in 3rd and 4th grades. My first children's chapter book was published in the summer of 2023. Since then, I have written and illustrated four other children's books and one other adult novel.
The Reader: I am never done outgrowing myself as a reader. In the past year, I read 50 books-- a personal all-time best. My favorite book is a middle-school chapter book The Giver by Lois Lowry. It's overwhelming message is that children are the future. I believe that; it's what led me to teaching. I also read the The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Demon Copperheard by Barabara Kingsolver, and We Are All So Good At Smiling by Amber McBride. My favorite book of the year was Starfish by Lisa Fipps. That is a book I recommend to my 4th-6th Graders. It's a wonderful story written in poetic verse. It's really powerful.
