During the Read-Aloud portion of our day, we drew pictures while listening to the text. Our instructions were to draw "only what we find in the text." That was last week, and we spent several days drawing and coloring our pictures while listening to Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.
Today, our teacher gave us copies of the first few pages of the text. We cut out portions of the text, as evidence that our drawing was accurate. This is for Common Core Standard RL.4.1: "Refer to details and examples in a text..." We had a fun time working on this project, and instilling in us the importance of referring to text details explicitly. Class Messenger is a free communication service provided by Scholastic, and I started using it a couple weeks ago. I love it! Parents can subscribe to the class and choose a communication style, including texting. Class Messenger is faster and easier than email, and much more convenient. Now, I can send messages directly to all parents at once or individually (including pictures and content), and they can respond in kind.
Parents have used this service to let me know their children were going to be absent, to ask about assignments, and to request a phone call. Also, I was able to take photos of students in incredible classroom moments and send them directly to parents! And all of it can be done from my iPad or mobile phone. If you haven't subscribed to our Class Messenger class yet, it's not too late! Sign up today for Class Messenger! |
