Just when we thought school couldn't get any cooler: we held court!
As a class, we read Jon Scieszka's timeless book: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
As a class, we read Jon Scieszka's timeless book: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
After that, things got a little wild! We divided into three groups. One group was the Pigs (The Prosecution). They were represented by their father and brother, since two of the little pigs became the wolf's lunch in both stories, so could not represent their own interests. Another group was the Wolf (The Defendant) and his doting family. The third and final group was the silent members of the Peer Jury. Some of them were pigs and some were wolves, so as to make the Jury as impartial as possible. The Honorable Ms. Willden presided over the proceedings with a gavel and a stern expression! She wasn't going to put up with any nonsense from the animals in her courtroom. Witness after witness went to the stand to tell their story, very carefully referring to specific details in each text. Meanwhile, the Jury watched, marked the texts, and gave points for correct reference and accuracy. Things got tearful when the Pigs' father took the stand to testify his outrage at the bad neighborly behavior that turned his two sons into lunch! When the wolf took the stand in his own defense, the peals of giggles had to be shushed repeatedly. But, alas! His story was not strong enough for the Jury to find him Not Guilty. After a short deliberation, he was accused of Pigslaughter, and sent to jail. Another bad guy off the streets of Storyville! |
